Cohen Jasper - Varsity Cup

The exciting Central University of Technology Ixias fullback, Cohen Jasper, has signed a contract with the Toyota Cheetahs.

Jasper has previously represented the Free State at age-group level.

Jasper has been one of the stand-out performers for the third-placed Ixias during the Varsity Cup which is currently being played in Pretoria.

He stole the show a week ago when he scored a try after the hooter to lead the Ixias to a historic first-ever win over the Maties in the Varsity Cup.

Jasper is known for his fleet-footedness, speed, and ability to change a game at the drop of a hat. His style of play is well suited to the Cheetahs' famous brand of running and exciting rugby and he should have no problem slotting in with the season players.

A teammate of Jasper at the Ixias is expected to sign his contract at the Cheetahs on Friday or the coming days.

Other players are have been confirmed as new signings are the Griquas prop, Mox Mxoli, and the winger Daniel Kasande.

The Pumas prop and former Junior Springbok, Marné Coetzee, will also be heading to Bloemfontein.

Meanwhile, the seasoned fullback and two-time Currie Cup winner, Clayton Blommetjies, has extended his contract with the Cheetahs by a year. The Springbok flank, Oupa Mohoje, and the lock, Rynier Bernardo, extended their contracts by a further two years.

The prop, Khutha Mchunu, who signed from the Sharks on a one-year deal in October 2020, is also expected to extend his contract by a further year.
