The 2021 Nedbank Cup final in Bloemfontein on Saturday between Chippa United and Tshakhuma FC will be one for the record books.

For the first time, two teams in a Premier Soccer League relegation battle will be playing in a major cup final.

A recent good run of form by both teams sees TTM occupy the 14th spot in the standings, while Chippa are one point further back in 15th and second last on the log.

The Chippa United coach, Vladislav Heric, expects a tough encounter and they are wiling to throw the kitchen sink at their opponents.

“We can expect a very tough game, just like any final. It is a 50-50 game.

“It might not be attractive football because everybody wants to win and so some doors will  be closed. The teams will not take too much of a risk.

“You have to go for a result. We must also take into consideration we are both fighting to escape relegation.

“But we will put all our weapons out to try and win the game.”

The TTM coach, Dylan Kerr, in his turn believes that they deserve some silverware and they will settle for nothing less than a win.

“It is a cup final, so league form goes out the window.

“The players are excited and wanting to impress. This week we have had training sessions with no injures, which is almost unheard of.

“It’s an important game for the club and players, it could be the one and only chance for these players to reach a cup final. Our opponents have a couple of good results behind them and have a new coach.

“For me it is a privilege, I’m very honoured to be in this country, 30 years after I played in a cup final.

“Especially after last season, where we lost in the semi-final while I was at Baroka. Everybody involved in the club, the staff and the players, we have got something to achieve.

“I told the players, no-one remembers the runners-up and losers, don’t be one of them when it comes to eight o’clock on Saturday night.”

Saturday’s big final at the Toyota Stadium will kick off at 17:30.
