Shimlas targeting an upset | News Article
Rewan Kruger - Varsity Cup

The University of the Free State Shimlas feeling refreshed and upbeat ahead of their Varsity Cup clash against the second-placed Tuks on Monday evening.

The Shimlas have just a single win to their name after six rounds in the Varsity Cup.

The Shimlas know they will be in for a tough evening in the capital city, but the captain, Rewan Kruger, who will be playing off the bench, told OFM Sport that they believe they can pull off an upset.

“We are definitely up for it.

“Regarding the confidence our team has taken from the Madibaz game, I definitely believe that we've got the firepower for the game and we are very excited about it.

“We are taking on the hosts and we can shock them it will put the Varsity Cup in a whole different space.”

The assistant coach, Jaco Swanepoel, in his turn believes that the lads need a win against a strong team to take them to the next level with their confidence.

“The boytjies are going to fight to the end and hopefully we can end this competition on a good note.

“A win will be immense for these guys. I think it will be a different side if we can just pull off a proper win.

“Not a win like we did against the Madibaz, but against someone like Tuks. The belief will just come back and that is what is necessary.”

This match at Loftus Versfeld kicks off at 19:00 and at 17:00 the Ikeys are put against UWC.
