South Africa’s leading men’s singles player, Lloyd Harris, will have his sights set on the quarter-finals of the Noventi Open in Halle, Germany.
Harris needed an hour and 8 minutes on Tuesday to beat the 8th seeded French Open Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round of the grass court tournament.
Harris will face Slovakia's Lukáš Lacko in the round of 16 this afternoon.
Harris, who looked very settled on the grass against Monfils says a 100% effort is required on the surface.
“I think the ball stays a lot lower and is a little bit more inconsistent, so you really need to prepare for every shot.
“The match can run away from you really fast if someone is serving well and hitting the spot. It can change really quickly, so I think you have to be focused on every single point and give that 100% effort on each point, otherwise you can be in trouble.”
The 2nd round tie between Harris and Lacko gets underway at 12:20 on Thursday afternoon.
