The Proteas are striving for a series whitewash with the 2nd and final Test against the West Indies getting underway in St Lucia on Friday.

The Proteas are halfway to achieving their objective after winning the 1st Test in Gros Islet by an innings and 63 runs.

The last time the Proteas won an away Test series was during the 2016/17 season when they beat the Black Caps 1-0 in New Zealand.

The Proteas skipper, Dean Elgar, says winning the 1st Test last week was great for their confidence.

“We have one foot in the door and in my opinion, we are not going to stop there. I still want another Test win.

“To seal the Test series 2-0 will be brilliant for us.

“Just winning one Test has taken us such a long way already and another win can take us even further as a unit.

“We need Test wins and we need series wins and that is the bottom-line.”

There has been some rain about the island during the week and while the pitch looks similar to that of the 1st Test, there can be some moisture in the deck.

Elgar conceded that he is not sure what to do if he wins the toss, but he leans towards batting first.

“I haven't wrapped my head around what I will do at the toss just yet.

“Generally, I am a 'bat first' kind of guy because you don't win the game on the first day, but rather days four and five.

“The ball creates indentations in the wicket and having big fast bowlers hitting them is where the ball reacts from an up-and-down point of view.”

The first ball of the 2nd Test at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground will be bowled at 16:00 on Friday afternoon.
