In Berne, Young Boys came from behind to beat a 10-man Manchester United 2-1.
At the Camp Nou, Barcelona were beaten 3-0 by the German giants, Bayern Munich, while Dynamo Kyiv and Benfica played to a goalless draw. In Seville, Sevilla and Salzburg played to a 1-1 draw.
At Stamford Bridge, the champions, Chelsea, beat Zenit 1-0.
On Wednesday night at 21:00, Manchester City face Leipzig and Liverpool are home to AC Milan.
