Temba is the man for the job right now - Maharaj─── MORGAN PIEK 07:35 Thu, 16 Sep 2021
The Proteas spinner, Keshav Maharaj, has down played the idea that he takes over the captaincy of the white-ball team heading into the World Cup.
Maharaj skipped the Proteas during the last two One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
The spinner was simply outstanding in his captaincy, and he is especially good even when it came to the use of his bowlers.
Maharaj said that Bavuma is still the man to carry the team forward.
“I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity. Temba is the man for the job right now.
“I'm just filling in his shoes and just sort of following where he left off.
“I'm sure that he will make a speedy recovery and take over the reins again.
“He has done a sterling job so far, so everyone is looking forward to having him back with the team.”
Bavuma missed the series due to a fractured finger but is expected to be fit for the upcoming 2021 ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
