The former Toyota Cheetahs outside back, Darren Adonis, is set to make his Springbok Sevens debut this weekend during the Vancouver Sevens on the HSBC Sevens World Series.

The event in Canada is the first stop on the circuit this year and will sadly miss several of the top nations.

Adonis was with the Cheetahs from 2017 to 2019 before joining the Sevens Academy in Stellenbosch.

Adonis told OFM Sport that there are some butterflies in his stomach.

"I must admit that I'm excited, but I am also a bit nervous because I didn't anticipate that I would fulfil my dream so soon.

"I'm really grateful for the opportunity and I'm ready to give it my best shot.

"I worked with the Cheetahs back in the day and I gained a lot of knowledge out of the game."

During his stay at the Cheetahs, Adonis, represented the team in the Currie Cup as well as in the Guinness PRO14.

The Blitzboks open their campaign at 19:53 tomorrow night when they face Mexico in their opening match of Pool A.
