Kimberley to host skateboarding extravaganza this weekend─── BLAINE JONES 12:30 Sat, 18 Sep 2021
The Kimberley Diamond Cup (KDC) Grand Slam Skateboarding event will be kicking off this weekend, welcoming the country's biggest names.
The event will take place at the Kimberley Skate Plaza where names such as Brandon Valjalo and Boipelo Awuah, as well as the winner of the Sun City Ultimate X skateboarding event, Khule Ngubane, will be present.
South Africa’s best skateboarders will be in Kimberley, with the likes of Jean-Marc Johannes on show at one of the finest venues on the African continent.
“It has been a tremendous year for skateboarding in South Africa, with two riders from the KDC team, heading to the Olympics in Tokyo last month. This weekend’s Kimberley Grand Slam will form part of the build-up to the main event at the Kimberley Skate Plaza in December later this year.
“Boipelo Awuah and Brandon Valjalo will be present, but both are still nursing injuries from the Olympics and will not be competing,” says the Northern Cape Tourism Authority in a statement.
