Western Province coach Salieg Nackerdien has made just one change to his 15-man squad ahead of the CSA T20 Knock Out stage starting in Kimberley on Tuesday.

WP will play the Itec Knights in the 2nd quarter-final at the Kimberley Oval on Tuesday afternoon (14h30) and welcome back batsman David Bedingham, who replaces all-rounder Jordan Woolf, who got his first taste of professional cricket during the Pool A phase of the competition.

Bedingham, who had a sublime season in the UK with County team Durham, scoring over 1,000 first-class runs, which resulted in him being awarded the Paul Collingwood Medal for Player of the Year at the County, is naturally excited about being back in Province colours: “Obviously it’s great to be back home at Newlands. Looking at this T20 Knock Out, I hope I can make a decent impact in this tournament, we’re in a quarter-final now so hopefully we can go all the way and win it – personally it will be nice to score some runs, and quick runs and going forward, after the tour now, it will be great to bat at Newlands again and play some red ball cricket and do a decent job for WP.”

Coach Nackerdien enters the knockout phase of the tournament in his first assignment since being appointed head coach of a squad that includes the likes of top run scorer of Pool A, Zubayr Hamza, experienced captain Wayne Parnell and Proteas duo Beuran Hendricks and Kyle Verreynne, and he is looking forward to the challenge ahead. “It’s been a good 7, 8 days of preparation and obviously good to have the whole squad together now that Bedders has joined the squad this week – we’ve had a couple of nets and practice games which went well. The main thing we’re looking for is to execute properly in our quarter-final against the Knights, I think our preparation has been key in terms of the matches we have played in the middle. Overall, we have a good squad and I’m very confident we can get over the line, but the main thing is to look at our execution and as a team we need to believe in ourselves that we can take it much further than the quarter-finals.”

WP squad - Wayne Parnell (captain), Aviwe Mgijima, Basheer Walters, Beuran Hendricks, Daniel Smith, David Bedingham, Jonathan Bird, Kyle Simmonds, Kyle Verreynne, Mihlali Mpongwana, Nandre Burger, Tony De Zorzi, Tshepo Moreki, Yves Kamanzi, Zubayr Hamza
