Bloemfontein's Wilco Nienaber is one of four golfers who broke the Guinness World Record after playing the fastest hole in golf.

Playing from the 458m par five 4th hole at the iconic Valderrama in Spain, Nienaber played the tee shot, while the American, Sean Crocker, played the approach shot.

Min Woo Lee of Australia and Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark were responsible for the work on the green.

Lee sunk the eagle put to see the quartet claim the world record in just 24.75 seconds. It took several attempts but the new time is 3.13 seconds faster than the previous world record of 27.88 seconds.

On average, it will take a group of four golfers or a four-ball, an average of 10 minutes to complete a hole, which is five minutes faster than four average golfers.

The 21-year-old Nienaber is still the longest driver on the European Tour with an average drive of 324.6m, while the tour average is 296.9m.

The attempt was part of the Hero Challenges on the European Tour and features some of the best and brightest players in the world in a short-form social and digital video output.

This year, there will be three different style Hero Challenges from three locations across the European Tour calendar.
