South Africa’s Kevin Anderson has jumped 17 places in the latest ATP rankings after playing in his first Grand Slam final.

Last night Anderson became the first South African in 33 years to play in a Grand Slam final, but facing Rafael Nadal in the US Open final at Flushing Meadows.

While Anderson lost in straight sets to Nadal, it was enough for the tall South African to jump to 15th in the latest rankings.

Anderson says he is proud with the leap he has made in the rankings.

“I feel like when I’m taking care of the stuff I need to, the rankings will take care of itself.

“It’s great to sit back at the end of the week and see the jump that I’ve made and the spots I’ve been able to climb.

“It’s something that I can be very proud of.

“When I play my next tournament it will be back to square one and everyone will be very determined.”

Nadal who won his 16th Grand Slam title strengthens his grip on the number one spot, while Roger Federer moves up to 2nd and Andy Murray slips to third.
