The former world number one, Novak Djokovic, begins his challenge for his third US Open title this evening when he faces Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in round one of the hardcourt Grand Slam.
The current world number two, Roger Federer, will also be in action on the Arthur Ashe court this evening when he faces Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka. Federer is targeting his sixth US Open, and 21st Grand Slam title.
In some of the women’s singles matches, Angelique Kerber will be up against Russia’s Margarita Gasparyan, Australia’s Samantha Stosur faces the world number two, Caroline Wozniacki, and Maria Sharapova will face Patty Schnyder of Switzerland.
Tomorrow, South Africa's Kevin Anderson will be in action in the second round when he faces France's Jeremey Chardy.
Anderson, who was last year's finalist has beaten Chardy twice in the past, while their very first meeting ended in a win for the Frenchman.
