The North West MEC for Social Development, Boitumelo Moiloa, has called on the law enforcement agencies and community members to deal with the growing number of gender-based violence (GBV) cases.

This follows after a 25-year-old woman from Zeerust was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend this past week.

Moiloa says she was disturbed by the details of the murder, stating that the young woman’s death is a major setback in the strides made in the fight against GBV across the country.

In a statement, Moiloa says that GBV has become another pandemic in the North West and the country at large.

“A possible senseless argument has now cut short the bright future of a young woman who was a breadwinner at home,” she said.

OFM News previously reported that two young women fell victim to violence at the hands of men who have since been arrested by the police and now face charges of murder.

Meanwhile, Moiloa said that social workers at the Ramotshere Moiloa service point, have been assigned to provide trauma counselling to the bereaved family and to compile a home circumstances report.

She said social workers have also provided the family with social relief and psychosocial support.
