Bloemfontein - Four goals in eight minutes early in the second half saw reigning Olympic and World League champions The Netherlands beat the South Africa women’s hockey team 5-1 at Hartleyvale Stadium.
At half-time the scores were level 1-1 before the Dutch scored four goal to clinch the two-Test series 2-0.
The goal blitz undid much of the excellent work the Proteas had done in standing all-square with the world’s number one team after the first stanza.
The two tests formed part of the Hartleyvale Summer Series which sees South Africa play against Australia and Belgium as well.
The Proteas meet Australia’s Hockeyroos in a three-Test series tomorrow, Friday and Saturday before a six-Test series against Belgium which starts on Sunday.
