The world witnessed South Africa’s golden boy, Wayde van Niekerk, shatter Michael Johnson’s longstanding 400m record in the early hours of the morning.
The current South African Sportsman of the Year clocked 43.03 to claim the country’s first gold medal in the Rio Olympics.
