Potchefstroom - The DA says evidence has been destroyed relating to the animal cruelty case being investigated at National Council Of Provinces (NCOP) chairperson, Thandi Modise’s North West farm.

Democratic Alliance leader in North West, Chris Hattingh, says a surgeon belonging to the Veterinary Defence Association (VDA) investigating the charges was threatened.

He says the surgeon in question confirmed that political and financial pressure had been exerted on him.

Police and NSPCA inspectors found over 100 dead and starving animals on Modise's farm, Modderfontein near Potchefstroom, last month.

The animals were thought to have been without food and water for at least a week, and there were no farmworkers on the property.

The society has laid charges against Modise and people living on the farm.

Modise's farm manager Neo Moepi earlier denied threatening two NSPCA inspectors with violence, claiming he had saved them from harm at the hands of farmworkers.
