Animal activists ‘Ban The Bang’ oppose fireworks at RAG─── THANDI XABA 13:10 Thu, 29 Jan 2015
Bloemfontein - While hundreds of Kovsie students will be setting off fireworks and enjoying the festivities of RAG in Bloemfontein this weekend, a group of concerned community members and animal rights activists are up in arms.
The concern is that the annual event is held at Chevrolet Park Cricket Stadium, which is situated right next to the city's Zoo.
Veronica Venter says the 'Ban the Bang' activists will be handing more than 100 letters of complaint to varsity authorities this afternoon.
Venter says the university should opt to use lasers in stead of fireworks as they don’t make any noise and are less dangerous.
