Bloemfontein - Three Bloemfontein residents, a mother, her daughter and their employee, will stay behind bars until they can apply for bail next Tuesday.

Charmaine le Roux, her daughter Charndrei and Jerry Brummer appeared in the city's magistrate's court this afternoon in connection with the assault of a Bloemfontein woman who went jogging by herself in Albrecht Street in Dan Pienaar in the early hours of the morning of July 31.

The three have been charged with attempted murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit murder. Brummer's legal representative, Herclaas Venter, alleged in court that Brummer was assaulted by police while in custody.

The 44-year-old victim, whose identity is protected, was attacked while out jogging in Albrecht Street, Dan Pienaar, five weeks ago. She sustained serious injuries after a man allegedly attacked her with a rock and left her for dead. She was found at around 07:00.

She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition where she stayed for a lengthy period. The three suspects were arrested on Tuesday evening.
