Zeilinga heading to the Cheetahs | News Article

The Toyota Cheetahs have boosted their ranks ahead of the upcoming Currie Cup by securing the services of a new flyhalf.

According to the local daily, Volksblad, incoming coach Franco Smith has landed a Shark by getting 22-year-old Fred Zeilinga to pen his signature.

With Joe Piestersen set for a move to the side from Durban the Cheetahs are running thin in the pivot role and Zeilinga will be welcome addition to the side.

Zeilinga remain at the side for the Super Rugby next season.

The player who has been playing second fiddle to Springbok flyhalf Patrick Lambie for the most part in Durban was the sixth highest points scorer during last years’ Currie Cup.

Meanwhile, the Cheetahs tackle the Stormers on Saturday in Cape Town and could see Sarel Pretorius, Joe Pietersen and Lood de Jager all being named in the match-23 today.

Stormers assistant coach Robbie Fleck told OFM Sport that they aren’t too worried about the trio and want to focus on their own game.

The last time these two sides met, the Cheetahs beat the team from Cape Town 25-17.

Saturday’s match in shadows of Table Mountain kicks off at 17:05.
