Deadline for Lesotho Special Permits extended | News Article

Bloemfontein - The department of Home Affairs has extended the deadline for Lesotho Special Permit applicants.

Lesotho nationals, who are residing and/or working in South Africa illegally had until tomorrow to apply for the permit.

The permit  is issued under a special dispensation for Lesotho nationals who are working, studying or running businesses in South Africa and had done so before 30 September 2015 without the necessary documents.

However, the South African Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, announced late yesterday that he acceded to a request by Lesotho authorities to extend the closing date of applications to 30 September 2016.

The request follows after the Lesotho government was inundated with applications for identity documents required for the application for the Special Permit. Early estimations were that an expected 400 000 to 500 000 applications will be submitted.
