New research gives hope for drought planning in central South Africa─── 15:28 Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Researchers at the Central University of Technology have published a paper that could help agricultural roleplayers predict drought conditions as far as seven months ahead of time.
OFM News Agri Editor Sabrina Dean spoke to CUT lecturer Dr Desalegn Edossa, who explains that the study focuses on
the relationship between El Niño events in the tropical pacific and corresponding drought conditions in parts of central South Africa.
The research article “Analysis of Drought in the Central Region of South Africa and Their Association with SST Anomalies” was published in the open access journal the International Journal of Atmospheric Sciences in December. It can be viewed at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijas/2014/508953.
