“We couldn't really fire the way we would want to in those last overs, and then I think with the ball as well, we started off quite well and then we just lost it bit towards the second half of our bowling innings.”

The Proteas Women will look to bounce back when they face Sri Lanka in East London on Wednesday in the third and final T20 International.

On Saturday, Sri Lanka, levelled the three-match series with a convincing seven-wicket win at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom.

The Proteas won the first game by 79-runs at Willowmoore Park, but this was largely due to the magnificent 102-runs by the captain, Laura Wolvaardt, who was unavailable for the second match due to illness.

The winner of Wednesday’s game will claim the series, so there will be a lot up for grabs, especially considering that there aren’t many more T20 matches before the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in September.

Anneke Bosch, who scored 50-runs on Saturday said they need to improve across the board.

“We started off with the bat quite well, and then we lost it a bit in the last ten overs, said Bosch.

“We didn't do so well in that period and we lost a couple of quick wickets with new batters at the crease.

“So, we couldn't really fire the way we would want to in those last overs, and then I think with the ball as well, we started off quite well and then we just lost it bit towards the second half of our bowling innings.

“I think our fielding let us down a bit as well.”

Wednesday’s game at Buffalo Park starts at 18:00.
