“We just didn't play the cricket that we wanted to and we weren't up to standard. I have to give credit to Sri Lanka who really put us under pressure.”

The Sri Lankan women's team claimed the three-match T20 International series on Wednesday night by beating South Africa by 4-wickets at Buffalo Park in East London.

The win saw the team from the subcontinent claiming the series 2-1 after they also won Saturday’s second T20I by 7-wickets at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom.

The Proteas had a bat first and scored 155/6 in their 20-overs with the captain Laura Wolvaardt scoring 56-runs, while the allrounder Nadine de Klerk scored 44. Anneke Bosch, who scored 50 in Potchefstroom chipped in with a knock of 27-runs.

Sugandika Kumari was the pick of the Sri Lanka bowlers with 3/24 in her 4-overs.

The captain Chamari Athapaththu scored 74 and Harshitha Samarawickrama scored 54 not out as Sri Lanka chased down the target in 19.1 overs, while De Klerk took 2/25 in her 4-overs.

De Klerk said they must brush off the disappointing series defeat and bounce back in the ODI’s.

“It's disappointing to lose the series, especially after the way we started the series, and normally we start quite slow,” said de Klerk.

“The way we started off in the first game we expected a lot more of ourselves in the next couple of games

“We just didn't play the cricket that we wanted to and we weren't up to standard. I have to give credit to Sri Lanka who really put us under pressure.

“We're really disappointed and I think we can be, but we have to try and improve as quickly as we can during the three One-Day Internationals.”

The first One-Day International will be played on Saturday in East London. Play at Buffalo Park is scheduled to start at 10:00.
