The Proteas Women’s opening batter, Tazmin Brits, scored her second One-Day International ton on Tuesday during the rained out first game against Sri Lanka in East London.

Brits scored 116-runs to guide her team to 270/6 in their 50-overs at Buffalo Park, while the captain Laura Wolvaardt continued her regained form with the bat by scoring 44 and Anneke Bosch contributed with 39. Brits and Wolvaardt put up a 94-run partnership for the first wicket which set the tone for the innings.

Brits, who is renowned for being an aggressive batter, played a well-controlled and measured innings which is now the highest individual score by a woman in an international at Buffalo Park. Brits hit 12 fours in her innings which lasted 128 balls.

In reply, Sri Lanka managed to score 23/0 before the heavens opened up and brought an early close to the game and it was declared a no result.

The Klerksdorp born-and-bred Brits told OFM Sport that this knock was better than her maiden ton against Bangladesh in December, although that score of 118 remains her highest in ODI cricket.

“I felt that it was a bit more flowing,” said Brits.

“It felt like a lot more of the runs were coming off the middle of the bat, but I only hit three in the air, whereas the one against Bangladesh, I wouldn't say that I got lucky, but I had a bit of a mistiming of them. So, this one seemed to be off the middle of the bat more often.

“It was also quite nice with Laura upfront - with the power play that's what we wanted to do. To put our team in that position, I'd say was the most pleasing part for me.”

The second One-Day International will be played on Saturday at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley.
