Forget those expensive face creams and drink rooibos to stay young─── EARL COETZEE 08:28 Sat, 20 Aug 2016
Port Elizabeth - Anyone hoping to keep those wrinkles at bay, and keep their healthy glow well into old age could do well to start indulging in an old South African favourite.
According to research conducted by the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan University, the tea, made from a variety of fynbos endemic to the Western Cape, protects the predominant cells in healthy fatty tissue. This is the subdermal tissue, which gives our faces and other body parts its shape and healthy look during youth, but decreases in old age. The loss of this fat leads to wrinkles, sunken eyes, and skin folds.
The research is still in it's early stages, but the researchers believe it could open doors for development of treatments that could delay aging.
In the meantime, feel free to indulge in a few cups of Rooibos tea, as prior research has already proven its anti-oxidant properties.
