Two business robberies in Bethlehem in one week | News Article

Bethlehem - Police in the Free State have not counted out the possibility that the same group of robbers might be involved in two separate robberies in Bethlehem last week.

Police spokesperson, Sinah Mpakane, says  bottles of perfume to the value of R55 000 were stolen in the latest incident at well-known chain store in a local mall on Friday. According to her, the manager of the store received a call from an armed response security company at about 05:45

Upon his arrival at the store, he discovered the security door had been forced open and its locks broken. The shelves where the perfume was stored were also opened. Mpakane says in another business robbery on Wednesday a chain store in town was also robbed by four men. Cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money were taken.

The assistant manager of the store alleged that she was waiting at the door for the shop to open. That is standard operating procedure for their store. She was then approached by a male pointing a firearm at her and instructed to open the door.

According to Mpakane the man forced her to go to the store room where he demanded the cellphones. The complainant told him that the key for the store room was in the shop. The suspect went into the shop with the victim to fetch the keys.

At that time the other employees were already forced to kneel by three other suspects who were in the shop already. The victim accompanied the first suspect to the store room where she was forced to put all the cellphones into a bag.

No arrests have been made yet.
