ANC in NC express shock after arrest of one of its councillor candidates─── MARK STEENBOK 17:18 Mon, 22 Aug 2016
Daniëlskuil - The ANC in the Northern Cape have expressed their shock after the arrest of one of the party's councillor candidates, Zoniselo Magawu.
He has been charged with the murder of a DA councillor in Daniëlskuil. Magawu was arrested on Friday by the Hawks after the murder of Johannes Baaitjies and the attempted murder of his business partner last Wednesday. The case was today postponed in the Postmasburg Magistrate's Court to next Monday for a bail application.
ANC spokesperson, Naledi Gaosekwe, has confirmed that Magawu was contesting for Ward One in the Kgatelopelo Municipality during the recently held local municipal elections. Gaosekwe says the ANC detests any form of criminality.
“We are of the view that the case is in front of the court. We would like the court processes to unfold. We are also calling upon calm in the community. We plead with the community to allow for the court processes to unfold. We would further like to send our condolences to friends and family of Baaitjies and the Democratic Alliance in the Kgatelopelo Municipality,” says Gaosekwe.
