Qwa-Qwa - Staff at Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital in Phuthaditjhaba are currently on strike. All emergencies are being redirected to the overcrowded Dihlabeng Hospital in Bethlehem, 50 kilometers away.

Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) reported in a press release that overcrowding, few wards working and specialists threatening to resign were among the many ills found in some of Free State’s district and regional hospitals.

TAC also alleges that Free State Health MEC, Benny Malakoane, and Free State Health HOD, David Motau, have not attended to the hospitals.

Free State Health Spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, however said that the department was considering corrective action against NEHAWU as a letter was signed at talks between on Tuesday them that the workers would resume work on Wednesday.

“The Department of Health, we are very disappointed for the fact that negotiations that were facilitated by our most senior delegations with the leadership of NEHAWU in the province, which were held yesterday at Manapo- the agreement and understanding that was reached between the two parties has not been implemented by Nehawu, despite the highest assurances that they gave to the department” Mvambi added.

Meanwhile TAC Secretary-General, Anele Yawa, says if "there needs to be another Marikana, let it be. We are going to make the Free State ungovernable."
