Drugs hidden in baby’s pants - parents arrested | News Article

Thaba Nchu - A plastic bag filled with Mandrax tablets hidden in a baby’s pants were confiscated by Free State police at the weekend.

Police spokesperson, Martin Xuma, says 57 tablets, to the value of R3 500, were found hidden between a seven-month-old baby girl’s nappy and corduroy pants at a house in Selosesha near Thaba Nchu on Saturday. He says local police members who were on patrol received information about a house in Zone 4 where drugs are being sold.

Members acted swiftly. No one answered when they knocked at the door. Xuma says a 41-year-old man arrived outside the house and started to swear at police members. He refused them entry to his house. The man’s wife then opened the door. Police members entered and started searching the house.

They found a 12-year-old girl, holding a baby. A police officer told the girl to go fetch a blanket for the baby as it was chilly. The police officer held the baby while the girl fetched the blanket. The officer tried to keep the baby warm when she felt something on the baby’s belly. The police officer then found the pills.

The children’s 31-year-old mother was arrested for dealing in drugs. Her husband was also arrested after two Mandrax tablets were found in his possession. Xuma says the two girls were taken to their grandmother.

Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lebeoana Tsumane, applauded the officers for confiscating drugs and arresting two suspects.
