Floors at the National District Hospital, in Bloemfontein, are once again dry following a leakage from a 20 000 litre water tank which is located on the hospital's roof.

OFM News earlier reported that the leakage caused partial flooding on about three floors at the hospital. Spokesperson at the Free State Department of Health, Mondli Mvambi, said that since the incident, the situation has been contained and regarded the matter as more of a leakage than a partial flooding.

Mvambi remarked that it was opportunistic of the EFF in the province, which first reported the matter on social media, to use the words "flooding" rather than leaking. He said the latter implies the extreme flow of water could even cause drowning, which he insists, was not the case in this matter. He further said that technicians worked on the tanker whilst the cleaners were on the floors sweeping the water and drying the floors. He further maintains that patient care was not at all compromised.

The departmental spokesperson further said that the department's primary objective, at this point, is to manage the situation in the long term. The department earlier reported that it would be working on rehabilitating the aging hospital, which is over 100 years old. Furthermore, there will be upgrades, maintenance and revitalisation of the hospital in order to improve the quality of the building.
