The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has stopped SMS communication with students because of phishing scams.
Nsfas administrator, Randall Carolson is advising students to only use the myNSFAS online portal. In a statement, the organisation said, "NSFAS will no longer be communicating directly with students via SMS during the 2019 academic year, with immediate effect, and advises students to only use the myNSFAS Online Self-Service Portal to view application status or any other information relating to funding.
eNCA reports that they warned all students to be aware of fraudsters and take extra care when dealing with personal info online or by phone.
Carolson says scammers would spread fake news to students.
