Bloemfontein - The Crop Estimates Committee has left the expected summer grain harvest largely unchanged in its eighth production forecast for the 2016 production season.
The CEC on Thursday said the size of the expected commercial maize crop has been set at 7,297 million tons, about half a percent higher than the previous forecast.
The white maize production estimate remained unchanged but the estimate for yellow maize was raised to 4,2 million tons.
Production forecasts for sunflower and soybeans were also unchanged, while groundnuts, sorghum, and dry beans all went down.
The final production estimate for summer crops for 2016 is due on September 27.
