“Last year was quite a busy and tough year in terms of netball and towards the end I was really tired and contemplating whether I should continue playing or not.”

The Free State and Proteas netball legend, Karla Pretorius, has confirmed that she is not quite ready to retire from the sport yet.

The 33-year-old Pretorius was contemplating calling it a day; however, she is ready to continue playing her part for South Africa.

Recently two highly experienced players in the former captain Bongi Msomi and Phumza Maweni announced their retirement late last year.

Pretorius told OFM Sport that she will continue representing South Africa during the national team’s transitional phase.

“Last year was quite a busy and tough year in terms of netball and towards the end I was really tired and contemplating whether I should continue playing or not,” said Pretorius.

“But, after a nice break and putting everything in perspective, I decided that I can continue a bit longer and I'm really looking forward to that.

“Also knowing that two top players in Phumza Maweni and Bongi Msomi retired from netball, I think that played a role in terms of we don't want all three of us being senior players and established members of the group leaving at the same time. I would lie if I didn't say that played a role.

“I'm looking forward to this year, to see where it will take me and takes us as a team.”

The Proteas will also see a new coach from this year after Norma Plummer’s tenure came to an end.
