OFM producer wins national award | News Article

Yet another of OFM's own has received an accolade this week.

Motlatsi JayBee Makhalemele, the producer of afternoon drive show, the Joyride, and host of the Supermix, was awarded best content producer in the commercial radio category at the Telkom Radio Awards in Johannesburg, on 2 December 2023.

According to the judges, this category honours the unsung heroes of radio – those individuals who conceptualise and sustain a block of programming during the day or night. They not only considered a well-produced radio show, but also looked at new ideas and creative sustainability.

“Winning the award is a great achievement, not just me, but for the whole team. ‘JayBee in the background’ only works because Nico van der Westhuizen, Nikki van der Linde, and Kayla Barker bring the background ideas to life and without them, ‘JayBee in the background’ would be pointless,” says Makhalemele.

Makhalemele was unable to attend the ceremony but his colleagues accepted the award on his behalf.

This adds to the tally of awards received by Central Media Group this week. On Thursday, OFM Business Hour host Olebogeng Motse received a national Vodacom Journalist of the Jear Award in the Financial and Economics Category. And, Les-Leigh Douberend from Mahareng Publishing was awarded Caxton Upcoming Designer of the Year.

OFM Programme Manager Tim Thabethe says to be recognised by your industry is a great honour, “This accolade is a testament to the work that JayBee and the OFM Joyride team put into their show every Monday to Friday from 3 to 6pm on OFM. This is a win for OFM, the Central Media Group and Central South Africa”.
