The Stormers will make a late call on the availability of the Springbok Deon Fourie ahead of Saturday's United Rugby Championship semi-final against Connacht in Cape Town.

The flanker picked up a hamstring niggle during last week's 33-21 quarter-final win over the Bulls in the Mother City.

Fourie has sat out for the entire week's training leading into the knockout match and at the stage the Stormers say his chances of playing are 50/50.

The Stormer coach, John Dobson, said they will make a call during Friday's captains run in Greenpoint.

“Deon is probably 50-50 at best and we'll make a late call at the captain's run on Friday,” said Dobson on Wednesday.

“It's a tough one, because there's no tomorrow. It’s a semi-final and it's everything.

"The consequences if we were to win and also his own aspirations this year, it's a tricky risk we have to take. That's where our mind is at the moment.

“There's no pressure on him on Friday, if he wants to play then it's fine. But we haven't pulled him out yet and we've made plans without him.

“He's feeling good. Steven Kitshoff was testing him this morning in the gym, but his concern is that jackal position, that's actually how he hurt his hamstring. You can't really test that. He feels good, but I know there's a bit of worry and I know he can't play if there's that worry.”

Saturday’s semi-final at the Cape Town Stadium kicks off at 16:00. At 18:30, Leinster will be up against their Irish neighbours, Munster, in the second semi-final that will be played in Dublin.
