“David and Tristan are new to sevens, but both played fifteens at a very high level and have massive rugby knowledge, work ethic and proved since joining us, that they have all the attributes needed to be successful on the sevens pitch as well.”

The Springbok Sevens team will be in action again this week during the Australian leg of the Sevens World Series.

The Blitzboks headed down-under with two uncapped players in the form of the former Toyota Cheetahs centre, David Brits, as well as the Western Province outside back, Tristan Leyds.

After two rounds, the Blitzboks are second on the log after winning the Dubai Sevens, while falling way short in Cape Town.

The coach, Sandile Ngcobo, said Brits and Leyds bring will be bring a lot of energy, while it is also important to rest some of the more senior players in Perth.

“We opted for fresh legs for this trip and picked a very fast team this time around,” said Ngcobo.

“The turnaround after Perth will be a short one, hence the decision to leave senior players behind for some conditioning back home.

“David and Tristan are new to sevens, but both played fifteens at a very high level and have massive rugby knowledge, work ethic and proved since joining us, that they have all the attributes needed to be successful on the sevens pitch as well.

“The management are very excited to see them perform, as they have worked hard since joining us and will bring something extra, we believe.”

The Blitzboks will open their campaign in Perth when they tackle Canada at 6:44 on Friday morning.
