The captain Selvyn Davids scored a brace of tries in Western Australia on Friday as the Springboks Sevens team kicked off their Perth Sevens with a dominant display.
The Blitzboks started their Perth Sevens campaign in Australia with a solid 24-7 win against Canada on Friday morning.
The Springbok Sevens team scored four tries in the Pool A game, while they just conceded once.
The Blitzboks opened the scoring through their captain and former Griffons scrumhalf, Davids. The Canadians struck back almost immediately.
On the stroke of half-time, Quewin Nortjé, took a double-step inside to cross the whitewash for a try which saw South Africa take a 10-7 lead at the break.
Davids completed his brace in the second stanza to give the Blitzboks some breathing room and close to full-time, the debutant Tristan Leyds scored a try which he converted to round off a solid opening match.
The former Toyota Cheetahs centre, David Brits, also made his eagerly antipatien debut in the match when came on as a substitution.
In the other Pool A game, the World Series leaders, Argentina, started with a 28-5 win against Spain.
At 12:22 on Friday the Blitzboks will tackle Spain in their second Pool A match.
