Scotland too strong for England in Six Nations | News Article

The English rugby team has suffered their first loss in the Six Nations.

They could not contain an inspired Scotland, who ultimately beat them 30 – 21 thanks to a brilliant hat trick of tries by South African born Duhan van der Merwe.

First blood went to England with full-back George Furbank scoring an early try with England quickly leading by 10 – 0 in the first 15 minutes of the game.  Van der Merwe, however, scored twice in the first half and completed his treble in the second half. His efforts were supported by Finn Russel, who contributed 15 points with the boot.

Duhan van der Merwe has now scored 26 tries for Scotland, six of which have been against England.  A late yellow card could not deprive him of the Player of the Match title, which he received a standing ovation for.

After three matches, Ireland leads the points table with 15 points, followed by Scotland with 9 points.  England is in third place with 8 points, while Wales remain without a win in fifth place with 3 bonus points. France and Italy will play each other this afternoon at 17:00 at the Stade France in Paris.

Six Nations action will resume on Saturday, the 9th of March when Italy will take on Scotland, and England will face Ireland.  Wales will host France on Sunday, 10th of March.
