The Springboks Sevens team secured their place in the Cup quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Sevens on the Seven World Series.

On Friday, the Blitzboks claimed back-to-back wins in the Pool C with victories over Ireland and Spain.

In their opening game of the tournament, the Blitzboks beat Ireland 22-17 after leading the game 17-0 at half time.

Dewald Human, Quewin Nortje, Shilton van Wyk and Ryan Oosthuizen and the Blitzboks went up 22-0, but the Irish were given a sniff when the playmaker, Justin Geduld, was sent off in the second half.

Zac Ward, Bryan Mollen and Niall Comeford all scored for the Irish in their valiant comeback effort.

In the Blitzboks second game they beat Spain 24-10 after leading 12-5 at the break.

Spain scored first through Alejandro Laforga dotting down in the 2nd minute, but South Africa struck back immediately with a converted try by Dewald Human.

On the stroke of half time, Shaun Williams scored the first of his two tries.

Tobias Sainz-Trapaga scored for Spain to cut the deficit down to two points again and put pressure on South Africa.

The former Cheetah, Darren Adonis, put the Blitzboks back in the ascendancy, but a full minute of the full time hooker, Williams, intercepted the ball to stroll in for his brace and seal the win for South Africa.

The Blitzboks will tackle Samoa at 4:16 on Saturday morning in their final pool game.

The Blitzboks coach Philip Snyman reflects on his team opening day in Hong Kong.
