“To have Sako back as well just makes the selection really difficult. He played really well when he got his opportunity to play against the Leopards and in the friendlies, and we're looking forward to having him back.

The Griquas have made a handful of changes to their team for Saturday’s SA Cup round clash against the Griffons in Kimberley.

The Griquas are fresh off their massive 119-5 win against the Border Bulldogs last week, but they are well aware that the team from Welkom will be a different beast and they will head to Kimberley with a lot of confidence.

The Peacock have been in outstanding form this season, but both teams will go into the game unbeaten.

The Griquas coach, Pieter Bergh, told OFM Sport that last week’s ‘cricket score’ they put up against the team from East London counts for very little.

“We didn't spend too much time on that Border game, but we only looked at one or two things we can improve," said Bergh.

“But, overall, we certainly didn't sit down and show all the tries to the players and see how good we were.

“The focus this week shifted to the Griffons quickly and they will be a tough team. To be honest, when was the last time we played against the Griffons when they had three wins in a row?

“They will come here with confidence as they also have 15 points after three matches and we know it will be a tough challenge.”

Bergh added that it is also great to have a player like Sako Makata back, who injured his ankle during the 88-0 win against the Leopards in round 1, especially as the depth in the squad is where he wants it to be.

“I told the players this week that it's the most difficult team selection we've had. We've had discussions in the management team about who should play, who shouldn't play.

“What we can do now is that if a player like Bobby Alexander or Marcqiewn Titus is not 100% we don't have to risk him because our backup is just as good.

“To have Sako back as well just makes the selection really difficult. He played really well when he got his opportunity to play against the Leopards and in the friendlies, and we're looking forward to having him back.

“It's something good for us to not risk players after we've built on our depth. That's where we want to be as a team.”
