“Although my wife and I aren't from Bloem, that's where we call home. Bloem is huis vir ons. I'm just very happy and excited to get stuck into a new Currie Cup season when I arrive.”

The former Junior Springbok and Toyota Cheetahs captain, Aidon Davis, is ready to come home and he looks forward to making his return to the team as from the Currie Cup.

Davis first joined the Cheetahs back in 2018 after playing for Toulon and Bayonne in the French Top 14.

In 2022 he left the Cheetahs for a two-year spell at the Exeter Chiefs in England and there he was a part of the Premiership who won a title during his stay there. There he played in 25 games for the English club and scored five-tries and represented them in both the Premiership as well as the European Champions Cup.

The 29-year-old told OFM Sport that after two years in England it’s time to come back to the place which he and his wife call home.

“Yes, I've signed with the Cheetahs and I am very happy and excited about it.” said Davis.

“I can't wait to get the family back in South Africa and Bloemfontein.

“Although my wife and I aren't from Bloem, that's where we call home. Bloem is huis vir ons. I'm just very happy and excited to get stuck into a new Currie Cup season when I arrive.

David added that he loved his time at the English club and he looks forward to bringing the experience gained back to the Free State.

“I've built a lot of experience here at the Chiefs and it was awesome to play Premiership and Champions Cup rugby for them and luckily I also won a trophy while I was here,” Davis added.

“I loved my time at the Chiefs, but now I'm looking forward to getting back home and playing for the Cheetahs again and living in Bloemfontein.”

In December Davis was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and stepped away from the game to undergo chemotherapy. During this trying time for Davis he got immense support from the club where they initiated fund-raising events to help where they could. Davis has a very positive outlook on life and this along with becoming a father while abroad also certainly helped in the difficult times.
