Saftu, #Cosatu calls for SA to down tools─── 06:47 Tue, 23 Aug 2022
The South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) says it's time for the government to sit up and find ways of alleviating the financial pressures on the working class.
Saftu and Cosatu say the only way to make the government act to alleviate the cost of living increases is to bring the economy to a halt through a national strike.
Meanwhile, analysts are warning the national socio-economic strike could paralyse the economy further.
The unions are calling on South Africans to down tools this Wednesday.

They say this national action is in response to ongoing power cuts, fuel price hikes and escalating food prices.
Saftu General-Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi concedes that while the shutdown won't immediately lead to change, it will force the government to start paying attention to the needs of the people.
