Vondrousova claims Wimbledon title.

Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova claimed the ladies singles title at Wimbledon after making it to the final for the first time in her career. She claimed a maiden Grand Slam title on Saturday afternoon on Centre Court.

The Olympic silver medallist, Vondrousova is the first unseeded finalist at Wimbledon since Billie Jean King who made it that far in 1963. This makes her win extra special seeing that she outmatched the 6th seeded Ons Jabeur to claim the title.

The 24-year-old previously stated that after spending six months away from tennis due to an injury last year, returning was not easy, but reaching a Wimbledon final makes it sweet, and now claiming a title is even sweeter.

Vondrousova claimed her win in the tournament in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 taking the 6th seed, Jabeur’s, hopes of a title away.

In her post-match interview, a heartbroken Jabeur went on to describe this as easily the most painful loss of her career. She headed into this final as a heavy favourite to win against her unseeded opponent and hopes were high for her to secure a title in her second Wimbledon final. Unfortunately for Jabeur, her opponent showed up strongly and bagged the win swiftly.

The 24-year-old Vondrousova truly made her mark this year as she beat five seeds in seven rounds over the past two weeks to claim her win.

The men’s singles final will take place on Sunday with the world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, up againts the defending champion, Novak Djokovic.
