The big-serving Anderson beat Gjis Bouwer of the Netherlands in straight-sets as he continues his return from retirement.

Anderson, who is a previous winner of the ATP 250 event in Newport, retired from the sport last year, but made his return on Monday.

Last night the 6’8” tall Anderson served 11 aces as he beat Bouwer 6-3 and 7-6.

On Thursday night at 19:30 Anderson will face world number 40, Ugo Humbert, of France in the quarter-finals.

Humbert in his turn Steve Johnson of the USA 6-4 and 6-4.

Humbert is seeded third for the tournament, while Anderson received a wild card entry.

On Tuesday Anderson beat Gabriel Diallo of Canada 6-3 and 6-2 in what was his first match out of retirement.

Anderson enjoyed a career highest ranking of 5th and is a previous Wimbledon and US Open finalist. He lost to Rafael Nadal in the final of 2017 US Open, while in 2018 he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon.
