On the weekend the 26-year former world number 31 had to qualify for the main draw of the ATP250 tournament as he continues to prepare for the upcoming US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Last night Harris beat James Duckworth of Australia in three sets to advance to the next round. Harris served six aces as he beat Duckworth 3-6, 6-3 and 6-2.

Harris, who is now ranked 204th, said he is just happy to be playing after several injury setbacks.

“It has been an interesting year,” said the 2021 US Open quarter-finalist.

“I started making my way back from a wrist injury and I had a few other injuries along the way. It was a lot of up-and-down with playing and not playing.

“It just makes me feel really fortunate to be on the court and I'm really trying to enjoy myself.

“I'm just happy to be playing tennis again.”

Harris will face the winner between the French duo, Ugo Humbert, who seeded 7th and Constant Lestienne.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday in the doubles, Harris will team up with Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia to face the America duo of Trent Bryde and Ethan Quinn.
