Novak Djokovic has established himself as the greatest of all time in men's singles tennis by winning the US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York.
On Sunday night Djokovic beat Daniil Medvedev of Russia 6-3, 7-6 and 6-3 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium to tie the record of Margaret Court for 24 Grand Slam titles.
This comes two years after Medvedev beat Djokovic at Flushing Meadows for what was his first and only Grand Slam title.
“To make the history of this sport is something truly remarkable and special,” said Djokovic.
“I never imagined that I would be here talking about 24 Slams.
“I never thought that would be the reality, but the last couple of years I felt I have a chance, I have a shot at history—and why not grab it if it's presented.”
Meanwhile, on Saturday Coco Gauff of the USA won her first-ever women's singles Grand Slam title with a 2-6, 6-3 and 6-2 win against Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
