Pistorius apologises for timing of comments

───   13:23 Mon, 03 Sep 2012

Oscar Pistorius has apologised for the timing of his comments regarding Alan Oliveira's win at the Paralympics last night, but says he believes there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

South African paralympic athlete, Oscar Pistorius, has apologised for the timing of his comments following his loss in the Paralympic T44 200m final last night.  After the race, Pistorius criticised the International Paralympic Committee, saying gold medallist Alan Oliveira's artificial legs were too long.  But in a statement released this morning, the South African admitted that it was Oliveira’s moment and that, although he apoligised for the timing of his comments, he believed there was an issue that should be addressed. Pistorius was overhauled by Oliveira in the final 20m of the race – the Brazilian won in a time of 21 point 45 seconds.  The IPC has meanwhile said all artificial legs - known as blades - adhered to strict regulations and had been verified and agreed before the race.
