SPCA raids Vaal backyard breeder
05:57 (GMT+2) Tue, 23 Oct 2012
Meyerton - The SPCA confiscated 55 Pomeranians from a backyard breeder in Meyerton, near Vereeniging yesterday. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' Vereeniging manager Marlien Pieterse said the owner of the house will face charges of animal cruelty and obstruction of justice. She said the small dogs were living in their own waste. Most of them had little or no teeth left due to poor diet. The Meyerton police were called in when the owner of the Riversdale home refused to allow the SPCA access to the property. Pieterse said numerous warnings had been issued in the past, adding that the owner chose not to comply nor improve the living conditions of the dogs.
