Australian captain, Michael Clarke, produced his third double-century this year with an unbeaten 218 on day four of the first test against South Africa at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Clarke led his team to 487-4 at stumps in reply to South Africa's first innings score of 450.

After going to the crease with Australia in trouble at 40-3 late yesterday (Sunday), Clarke shared a record 259-run, fourth-wicket partnership with opener Ed Cowan.
